This branch of Aloha-Africa provides direct relief for the acute needs of our artists' families in Ghana.
2007 Project
In 2007 we raised money for Ernest to build a house for his mother, who lives in a board caretaker's shack with Ernest's younger siblings and his 6-year-old son Samuel.
"The way she lives, it is not fine. If you see there, you will cry."
Ernest Borketey
Ernest is a skilled mason. He knows how to make blocks out of sand and cement, and with the help of friends, he is now building a small home for his mother on land that was given by her father.
He needs $2000 more to finish the roof.

2006 Project
In 2006 Aloha Africa chose to support Osenda’s family.
Osenda is a 26-year-old dancer responsible for supporting his mother,
Ashele, and his siblings Agele, Daniel, Ruth, Patience, and Adjetey,
who live in his grandmother's 2-room house with 23 other family members.

When asked what would be the most useful help he could receive to sustainably
support his family, Osenda answered clearly, “We need land for
building a home.” Owning land would immediately provide all family
members with a foundation of much-needed personal space, self-worth,
security, and hope.
Steven, Hannah, & Merlyn
Osenda’s mother found the ideal parcel
of land for sale at a price of $6,000. Thanks to a generous contribution
by Steven and Merlyn Ruddell, Aloha-Africa was delighted to send Osenda
home from his 2006 US performing tour with the full amount to purchase
this land for his family.
One Family at a Time has helped Isaac receive hospital care for malaria and pay for his father's funeral. We have also supported Ernest in feeding and paying the school fees for his five year old son, Samuel, and his twelve year old twin brothers.
There is an ongoing need for continued assistance at home in Ghana. |
